Support for students who use assistive technology

Support for students who use assistive technology

All library computers have some assistive software available, including mind mapping and text to speech. If you use assistive technology to support your study, or want to find out more about it, come along to the 500 word club. This is a supportive group where you can work on your assignment with support available from CLaSS and assistive technology.

The sessions take place once a week and you can book for a block of 12 weeks at a time. This gives you the chance to build up the amount you are able to write over the weeks.

Click to book your place: 500 Word Club

You can also take a look at the 500 word blog. It is regularly updated and has advice on writing and managing your studies, as well as videos on how to use assistive technology. You can add comments and have your say: 500 Word Blog

The Assistive Technology library guide has more information about the assistive technology available in the library and the support available including one to ones and workshops.

Further support

If you have a disability or medical condition there is a range of support available across DMU.

In the library

The library disability team can support you with finding resources through the Ask and Collect service and getting them made available in an accessible format.

There is a range of assistive software available on all library computers for students to use. There are also workshops and one to one tutorials to help you learn how to use the software.

The Maths Learning Centre can provide support with maths or statistics. Drop-in sessions are available from 12.30pm-2.30pm on weekdays during term time and exam time.

Across DMU

Disability Advice and Support can arrange support for your studies at DMU. They also work closely with the Mental Health Inclusion Team and the Counselling Service. They are based in Gateway House. To make an appointment with any of these services please contact Student Gateway.
