Kimberlin Library and Access

Kimberlin Library

Disabled parking spaces are available at the rear of the Kimberlin Library on a first-come-first-served basis to permit holders. Blue Badge holders can apply for a free permit through the Estates Department. DMU car park staff can direct you to these spaces. See more details below. There is a ramp into the Library.

Parking and access at Kimberlin and Law Libraries


Kimberlin Library
  • Parking spaces for Blue Badge holders are at the rear of the Kimberlin Library. These are found by turning right off Mill Lane into Deacon Street and right again before the main car park.
  • There is a ramp into the Library.
  •  There are automatic sliding doors to enter the building and a wheelchair accessible gate to enter the library proper.
  • A lift to all levels is available for your use. To obtain a temporary lift key ask at the Welcome and Help Desk. If you wish to be issued with a key permanently contact the Library Disability Team at libdis@dmu.ac.uk.
  • Doors on the Ground Floor and the Lower Ground Floor are automated.
  • For ease of access by wheelchair users there are raised PC workstations on the Lower Ground Floor, Ground Floor and First Floor and raised study tables on the Ground Floor, First Floor and Second Floor.
  • There are accessible toilets on all levels
  • Designated refuges are provided in case of fire. In the event of an emergency evacuation please inform a member of staff if you need assistance in reaching a refuge or leaving the building.

Law Library
  • The Library is located on the first and second floors of the Hugh Aston Building.
  • A lift is available within the Law Library to enable users to move from the first to the second floor of the Library (no key required).
  • For ease of access by wheelchair users a raised PC workstation is provided in the computer area.

Automatic Doors

Doors in the Library foyer are automatic. To release them manually, press the pad on the right at the top of the ramp. You can exit by this means too - the pad is located on the right as you leave the Library.

Entrance and Exit

The entrance to and exit from the Library has turnstiles. To bypass these you can use the wheelchair accessible gate which you can operate by scanning your University ID card. To register your card for this purpose speak to staff at the Reception Desk.

Lifts

A lift to all levels is available for your use if you require it. To obtain a temporary lift key ask a member of staff in the main foyer area. If you wish to be issued with a key permanently contact the Library Disability Team at libdis@dmu.ac.uk.

  • For ease of access by wheelchair users there are adjustable PC workstations on the Lower Ground Floor in the bookable study rooms (KL00.06, KL00.07 and KL00.08a-f) and the Assistive Technology computer room (KL00.09).
  • Raised study table on the First Floor behind the IT helpdesk.
  • There are accessible toilets on all levels.
  • Designated refuges are provided in case of fire. In the event of an emergency evacuation please inform a member of staff if you need assistance in reaching a refuge or leaving the building.

Other Library Buildings

Law Library

  • The Library is located on the first and second floors of the Hugh Aston Building.
  • For ease of access by wheelchair users, an adjustable PC workstation is provided in the computer area.
  • A lift is available within the Law Library to enable users to move from the first to the second floor of the Library (no key required). To operate, keep the pad pressed down.

Eric Wood

  • There are accessible toilets on the left as you enter the building
  • The entrance and exit gates in the Eric Wood study space are wheelchair accessible. You can operate these by scanning your University ID card.
  • If you require assistance please speak to the Building Attendant on duty.
