National Writing Day 2021

It’s National Writing Day on Wednesday 23rd June …

And here are some of the activities and events going on in the Library to help support you with your writing.  

Writing Group for Research Students is a small, informal group that meets on a monthly basis to discuss topics related to writing at doctoral level. Have a look at some of the events planned for this year. On Thursday 24th June 10-12 the session will cover ‘Dealing with Procrastination’ For details and to submit a draft for review, please email Neil Skinner nskinner@dmu.ac.uk.  

DMU Writing Circle is a community of DMU staff and research students interested in getting writing done and developing their capabilities as writers through participation in a regular social writing community. Meetings take place once a fortnight on Wednesday afternoons.  

Assistive Technology Software is available to help and support you in practically managing your reading and writing skills, including speech-to-text products such as Dragon.  

Open Programme workshop sessions on topics such as ‘How to write when you don’t want to write’, ‘Citing and Referencing’, ‘Improving your Critical Writing Skills’, ‘Finding Information’ and so on, open to all students to support your writing development.  

Postgraduate Group Online (POGO) is an opportunity for taught postgraduates and postgraduate research students to meet one another online to talk about aspects of postgraduate study and scholarship. First session is Wednesday 23rd June 2-3pm online – contact Jason Eyre at jeyre@dmu.ac.uk for further details. 

500 Word Club is where you can work on your assignment with support available from Assistive Technology, Digital Partner and CLaSS. The sessions take place weekly on MS Teams during Term time. Topics include Writing Strategies, Getting Things Done, Coming up with Ideas, Assignment Structure, Proofreading and Assistive Technology.
