Our unending quest to put useful resources in the hands of our staff and students continues, this time with a brand new feature for our Library Search function.
We have gained a subscription to Encyclopædia Britannica which we have been able to integrate into the Library Search. This means that Encyclopædia Britannica entries may now appear to the right of the search results when a Library user runs a search on a particular topic/theme/person/place - similar to how information boxes appear when using search engines.
In our example above, a search query for 'Stephen Hawking' has returned both booked by and about Professor Hawking as it usually would, but now on the right we can find an excerpt from the Encyclopædia Britannica entry for him. Clicking read more will invite users to connect directly to the Encyclopædia Britannica website for access to more content - at this point if you haven't yet signed on using your Single Sign-On you will be prompted to do so in order to access the full website.
With Encyclopædia Britannica being the oldest English-language general Encyclopædia in the world, and with over 120,000 articles available online, we are thrilled to have introduced this new functionality to our Library Search and are sure that this will be of great use to our students and staff. Now, though, we will continue to look for the next resource we can bring to you.
