Return to Campus Guide: Your Return to Campus

Guidance on Return to Campus

Face masks - masks are no longer legally required in most public spaces although they are strongly encouraged in busy areas.

Sunflower lanyards for staff who are unable to wear a face covering can be arranged via Heidi Wilkins or Karen Stevens.

Staff ID cards - Staff access card provision has now been restored to normal operation. Automated doors (on timed sensors) will be opened from the start of Term (week commencing 20/09/2021). In the event of query please email security@dmu.ac.uk.

Office seating - Desks in staff offices have been arranged to ensure social distancing, and screens have been installed. However, in smaller offices, e.g. individual offices in EW, windows should still be opened when more than one person is present. However, in larger offices where screens are in place between desks, it is not necessary to open windows as in cooler temperatures, in larger offices where air circulation issues are lower risk it is not reasonable to keep windows open. However, staff should wear a face covering when moving through the office and social distancing should be observed.  Bring extra layers to keep yourself warm.

Cleaning materials for desks etc - Cleaning materials will be available in offices or near printers for use and staff are encouraged to clean desks and other shared equipment eg. printers/photocopiers, before and after use.

Clear desk policy - Due to Covid, staff are encouraged to have a clear desk in order for Cleaning staff to clean offices efficiently when offices are not occupied.

Online DSE assessment - All staff need to complete a DSE Assessment for their campus workspace as well as for their home set up.  Please complete an assessment at the following link

Ventilation - Good ventilation can help reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus.  In smaller offices, e.g. individual offices in EW, windows should still be opened when more than one person is present. However, in larger offices where screens are in place between desks, it is not necessary to open windows as in cooler temperatures, in larger offices where air circulation issues are lower risk it is not reasonable to keep windows open. However, staff should wear a face covering when moving through the office and social distancing should be observed.  Please bring extra layers when working on campus.

Kitchen - Prior to the handling of communal items in the kitchen such as kettles, all persons should wash their hands for at least 20 seconds in accordance with government guidance to prevent contamination of surfaces.  Soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers will be fitted in EW kitchens for use when washing hands.  It is highly recommended that communal cutlery/mugs etc. should not be used and personal ones should be taken home to be washed.

Kitchens/Toilets and Copy Room - When using spaces with limited space and limited ventilation eg. kitchens, be mindful of social distancing and for smaller spaces try to limit occupancy to one at a time.  Masks are recommended to be worn in these spaces.

Lifts - Please only use lifts when absolutely necessary for mobility reasons or for the transport of large/heavy materials where transport on stairways would not be possible or safe.  It is advised that only one person should use the lift at any time.

MeetingsWhen face-to-face meetings are essential, participants should attend and 1m+ separation must be maintained throughout.  Sharing of pens and other objects should be avoided.  Please open windows frequently to encourage ventilation, wash hands regularly, use hand sanitiser when entering/exiting the building.

Building Evacuation Controller (BEC) - The EW BEC will be undertaken by all EW based staff. A rota for summer 2021 has been produced. However, there are some periods of low occupancy where the BEC will be covered by the KL BEC. If you arrive at the entrance to Eric Wood and find no BEC in attendance, please call the KL duty office via 07794 262211. For this reason in periods of low occupancy e.g. vacation, all staff are advised to have a charged mobile with them. For staff with a PEEP who need to make use of a refuge, they are strongly encouraged to carry a charged mobile with both the duty office number (07794 262211) and main Security number (0116 2577642) in case there are insufficient staff to check the refuge.

First aid - The green First Aid posters are continually updated, however if none of the first aiders are on campus, the Kimberlin BEC can be contacted via the duty officer phone (07794 262211) who will then identify one from the first aid pool list.  Contact Security on x7642 if no other first aider is available.
