New RefWorks: Sharing references

Sharing references

RefWorks allows you to share your references with other people you are working with. You can share the references with anyone inside or outside of DMU but you can only share the full-text PDFs of articles with people at DMU.

How to share references

You can share folders of references with other people (you can only share folders, not individual references). There are two different ways to share folders, one for other people who also have a RefWorks account and one for people who don't.

Sharing with someone who has a RefWorks account.

  • Click on Sharing in the menu on the left-hand side of the screen and then click on Share a folder.

RefWorks left-hand menu

  • Choose the folder that you want to share and choose the option Only invited people may access.
  • Enter the email addresses of those you want to share the folder with.
  • Choose what access options they have for the folder. You can choose whether people can only read (or see) the references, whether they can annotate them, or whether they can modify the folder. This would mean they can add or delete references in the folder.

Sharing settings pop up box

  • Click on Done.

Sharing with someone who doesn't have a RefWorks account

  • Click on Sharing in the menu on the left-hand side of the screen and then click on Share a folder.RefWorks left-hand menu
  • Choose the folder that you want to share and click on the link that says Create public URL
  • Share the URL with whomever you wish to share your references. They will be able to see the references but will not be able to add any references to the folder.
