Blackboard Collaborate: Introduction

Introduction to Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is a real time (synchronous) web conferencing tool that can be used to have a virtual classroom and live meetings with various interactive features. It can be integrated and accessed from Blackboard or set via web link. It enables tutors to interact and collaborate in real-time online and provide the recordings of sessions. It is similar to how Skype, Zoom or MS Teams events functions. In effect, a tutor can deliver a teaching session online, in which they might show a PowerPoint presentation, share their computer desktop screen, or use a virtual digital whiteboard, and have students interact with this content in real-time from remote locations.

Collaborate Ultra includes two-way audio and video support, meaning that you can see and hear the lecturer, if enabled the lecturer can simultaneously see and hear the students, and even students can see and hear each other. All participants in the session can interact with each other. Note these depend on how your lecturer has set this up depending in the nature of the session.

If Collaborate is being used for teaching and learning in your module, your module tutor will instruct you in the use of the software, how to access and join the session and will instruct you about any participant engagement.
