Staff LinkedIn Learning: Home

LinkedIn Learning is an online multimedia based learning platform which contain multimedia based video content on a huge array of areas led by subject experts. Develop your existing skills, gain new skills and discover current trends in industry. Learning content can be searched and accessed in a variety of ways. There are broadly three main categories business, technology and creative professional skills. Both DMU staff and students have free access to LinkedIn Learning (normally a paid monthly subscription). Learning content can include learning paths, courses or single videos. You can obtain a certificate of completion, with some videos exercise files to follow through and also connect with your LinkedIn profile.

  • The platform supports personalized content that matches learners' skill gaps and professional goals
  • Recommended courses based on people’s roles, learning activity, skills, and more.
  • A supportive, interactive community that connects learners with peers and experts
  • Learners can join learning groups, share and recommend courses, and watch courses together.
  • Interactive Q&A on course pages allows learners to ask questions and share ideas with instructors, colleagues, and others who’ve taken the course.

LinkedIn Learning can support professional development activities and supplement professional development skills on many themes e.g. Leadership, Equality, Diversion and Inclusion and more
Download step by step guideActivate your LinkedIn Learning account in a few simple quick steps below. You only need to do this once. Alternatively download the guide which includes visuals instructions by selecting the guide on the right.
  1. Open any web browser navigate to https://www.linkedin.com/learning/login
  2. In the Sign-In window, enter your staff DMU email
  3. Select the Continue button
  4. Select the 'Sign in with Single Sign On' blue button. This will take you to DMU's single sign on
  5. Sign-in with your usual login details (same for LearningZone)
  6. In LinkedIn Learning's welcome screen, you can either choose to connect with your existing LinkedIn account (if you have one) by selecting 'Connect my LinkedIn account' or choose 'Continue without LinkedIn'. 
  7. LinkedIn Learning will guide you to select some skills that you may wish to develop, follow the onscreen instructions. You can always come back to these options and add skills or content your interested in, after your account is activated. Adding these allows LinkedIn Learning to make personalised recommendations.
  8. That's it, your account is set!
  9. Bookmark the following link to access LinkedIn Learning and access your LinkedIn Learning account.

Learning resources can be easily discovered in LinkedIn Learning and there are many ways to discover content. Watch the video to find out more. There are many ways to discover resources in LinkedIn Learning whether this is for yourself, professional development or to be used in teaching (see teaching and learning tab).
  • Search by using the three categories - Creative, Business and Technology
  • Use the Search bar and type in any topic e.g. communications, well-being, remote learning, unconscious bias, leadership, a software (try any topic!)
  • After searching there are further filters, by levels e.g. beginner, best match, newest content
  • Save any resource in your dashboard (can remove if you find another resource)
LinkedIn Learning (LL) can be used in teaching and learning, this can have many benefits:
  • Flipped classroom approach, based on recommended LL content 
  • Contextually link to LL content in a variety of ways, in DMU Resource Lists, LearningZone and MS Teams
  • Extend and support student knowledge and skills on a variety of skills and support assignments e.g. from specific MS Excel, Adobe InDesign, Communication and more
  • Students can track progression and completion of any LL content they engage with and obtain certificates of completion
  • LL content can include downloadable excercise files for students to practice, transcripts and captions on videos

You can share LinkedIn Learning content in LearningZone or DMU Resource Lists and MS Teams. The below details will show you how.

Sharing LinkedIn Learning Content in Blackboard Modules ***TO BE UPDATED FOR LEARNINGZONE***
  1.  Activate your staff LinkedIn Learning account.
  2. Signpost your students to activate their LinkedIn Learning accounts. Students can track their progress, save or bookmark the content for later access to LL. 

Options for sharing:

Option 1. You can share sourced LL content as URL link (copied) and add as a web link in your Blackboard modules - see steps in video below 'Share LinkedIn Learning Content'. Students will be prompted to sign-in with their usual login details on accessing the link.

Option 2. A role of academic LinkedIn Learning sub-admin has been set-up. 

A role of sub-admin can:

  • Curate Content: Make their own learning paths and collections. This basically means you can source several LinkedIn Learning content and make a 'collection' to be shared with your students.
  • Share LinkedIn Learning links as 'Single-Sign On' (SSO) links that can be added as web link in your Blackboard module. This way students can avoid single sign-on prompt (as they are signed into Blackboard)
  • View Reports: Configure, download and view reports of learner activity on LinkedIn Learning.
  1. To obtain the sub-admin role please complete the brief form Request Sub admin role in LinkedIn Learning. A email confirmation of your activated sub-admin role will be sent. 

Professional services staff can too request the sub-admin role if you wish to create Learning Paths to share with colleagues for professional development or group interests. To obtain this sub-admin role please complete the brief 'Request Sub-admin role form for professional staff'.

NOTE If you choose not to have the sub-admin role you can still share LL content links in Blackboard, as you share web links in Blackboard, your students will just need to login when prompted. Note there is no reporting access on usage.

Share LinkedIn Learning Content  Create a LinkedIn Learning Path as Sub admin Create a LinkedIn Learning Collection as Sub admin

 

You can share LinkedIn Learning content in your DMU Resource Lists in your Blackboard modules.

It will help students to activate their LinkedIn Learning accounts so that they can track their progress and save or bookmark the content recommended and for easier access later when they access their DMU LinkedIn Learning account.

Follow the steps 1 and 2 as outlined above for sharing content in Blackboard. Decide if you wish to have the sub-admin role, see the 'option 1' or 'option 2' in the Blackboard steps above. The sub admin role if needed can be used to share content in resource lists, though it's not necessary

You can share LinkedIn Learning content in MS Teams

It will help students to activate their LinkedIn Learning accounts so that they can track their progress and save or bookmark the content recommended and for easier access later when they access their DMU LinkedIn Learning account.

LinkedIn Learning has a huge range of courses for professional development. As you progress through any videos that you have selected, recommendations on latest or relevant content can be found in your LinkedIn Learning dashboard. Also keep any eye out for any live sessions with industry or subject specialists.
Resources, readings and current trends can be followed on LinkedIn Blogs (select the below image). You may be able to connect or align to these for projects and further considerations. 
Note any member of staff can request a sub-admin role for LinkedIn Learning if you wish to create and recommend collection of resources you have found in LinkedIn Learning. Read more in the tab 'In Teaching and Learning'.

 

When you complete a LinkedIn Learning resource (video, course or learning path) you will get a certificate of completion which can be downloaded or even shared on your LinkedIn profile if you have one. Watch the video below on how to view or download a certificate of completion.
