Alumni: Membership & borrowing

Membership of the library

 

Student Alumni 

  • You are eligible for free borrowing membership of the Kimberlin Library only.
  • Contact the Alumni Office to obtain confirmation of your status and apply by completing the application
  • This membership allows you to borrow up to 4 books.
  • Please be aware that Library Learning Services has other buildings on campus but these are only for use by current DMU staff and students. You cannot gain access to them. This means that there is no access to the Law Library, or the book stock from the Law Library, for external card holders and visitors.

 

Former DMU staff

  • If you have more than 10 years service as a member of staff, you are eligible for free borrowing membership. 
  • Contact Human Resources to obtain confirmation of your status and apply by completing the application
  • You are eligible for free borrowing membership of the Kimberlin Library only.
  • This membership allows you to borrow up to 4 books.

What CAN I access?

 

Books

  • You can borrow up to 4 books using the self-service machines.
  • All books are issued for 2 weeks and automatically renewed if not required by another user.
  • Books will not be renewed if the book is reserved by another user and you will receive an email to explain this.
  • Fines will be applied for late return.  

Online journals

  • Most of our e-resources are paid for and licensed for current students and staff only and therefore we are unable to make these available to Alumni.  However, you may find a number of online journals and other online information has been made available to the general public.  The free online resources tab offers some suggestions.

IT facilities

  • Photocopying is available at 10p per sheet
  • Wi-Fi is available via the EduRoam service, ONLY if you are a student registered at another university. 

Archives and special collections

What CAN'T I access?

 

 

Some services are only available to current students because of service demand or licensing restrictions and we are unable to make these available to Alumni. These include:

  • 24 hour library access
  • Access to e-resources, such as e-books and e-journals
  • Access to IT facilities (PCs and printing), slide and video collections (which includes DVDs)
  • Laptop loans
  • Access to day ticket kiosk to replace forgotten library/ID cards
  • Study Room bookings
  • Fashion predictions

Library regulations

All users are bound blibrary regulations. Access and membership are provided at the discretion of the Director of Library and Learning Services.
