Using the Library

Using the Library Overview

Welcome to Library and Learning Services. In the menu you can find out about the wide range of services and resources we offer to help you safely enjoy success in your studies.

Using the Library

Latest Covid updates. Under phase 3 the Kimberlin Library is open to all DMU students for individual study and browsing of book / journal collections. For those students not on campus we are also offering free request services.

  • You currently do not need to make an advance booking to use the learning spaces.
  • You will need your DMU ID card to access our learning spaces and to borrow items, so don't forget to bring your card with you.

Help

Our friendly and helpful staff are here to help and support you with your studies, and you will find lots of guidance online to help you navigate your way around the library and materials in your subject area.

Library Study Spaces & Campus Study Spaces

Our Kimberlin and EWLZ spaces are open for individual study and we have reduced study space capacity to ensure social distancing.

Due to current government guidance and university policies, we are only offering study spaces to individual students, within our larger study spaces. No group study is available within the library at present, and the bookable study rooms are also not available, either for individuals or for groups.

We offer both quiet and silent learning environments

Don’t forget to bring your student ID card with you, as you will need it to access the learning spaces.

You can study in spaces across the campus.

If you want to book individual space to undertake an online exam, please contact your faculty’s Student Advice Centre for details of available spaces.

Studying Safely

To keep you and our staff safe while using our spaces for study or whilst collecting requested books, please follow government guidance - ‘hands, face, space’.

  • Face coverings must be worn at all times
  • Keep your distance from others, both walking through and studying in the library and Eric Wood Learning Zone
  • Follow the one way system in place
  • Regularly wash your hands
  • Please sanitise your workspace and the printers before and after use. Spray and paper towel stations are located throughout our buildings
  • Scan the Safe trace QR code for the area you are studying in.

Additional ventilation measures, including open windows, are in place to increase fresh air flow, and it might feel colder. Please wrap up warm.

Under Covid secure measures, eating is not permitted in our spaces. Hot and cold drinks are allowed, but please ensure you replace your face mask when not drinking.

Take a break and refuel in the Food Village, which is open weekdays between 8am and 4pm for both takeaways and socially distanced eating in.

Library staff and building attendants are available in our spaces to help you and to provide guidance on keeping safe. Please be patient and engage positively if they approach you regarding compliance of Covid protocols.

Opening Hours

We have revised opening hours this academic year. Please check our Opening hours before you visit. You can also access many of the library's resources online 24 hours a day, wherever you have Internet access.

Your Library Trail

#YourLibrary: The Library Trail is an introduction to the library and what we can offer, for new and returning DMU students.  Use the trail as a guide around the building, or have a look before you come and visit us so you know what to expect.
