Academic Support Drop-In: Finding Information & Referencing

Finding Information and Referencing Vacation Drop-in 

Vacation drop-in takes place both online and face to face. You choose which suits you best. 

Complete the form to get on our waitlist and select how you’d like to see us: online or face to face.

If you are joining us face to face: 

  1. Click on the Waitlist button to join the drop-in queue 

  1. If you are not first in line, go and grab a coffee or carry on working at your desk in the library  

  1. Keep an eye on your phone or email so you know when to return to the LDZ for your drop-in 

  1. You can view where you are in the queue via our Waitlist button. 

If you are joining us online: 

  1. Join the waitlist with your DMU email address (P-number @my365.dmu.ac.uk) 

  1. You will receive an email letting you know when you are next in line 

  1. Open Teams on your device. Login to MS365 on Office.com and click on the Teams app or open the Teams Desktop App if installed 

  1. A tutor will then contact you on Teams 

  1. You will be able to chat via text, audio and/or screen share 


What is the Finding Information and Referencing drop-in?  

Drop-in gives you the opportunity to speak with a librarian about any aspect of referencing or literature searching (finding quality information for your assignments).  

Drop-in operates on a first-come-first-served basis. 

To allow tutors to see as many students as possible drop-in slots are kept to 10 minutes. 

What drop-in CAN cover:

  • Evaluating the reliability of information sources
  • Finding academic information for assignments
  • Searching academic databases effectively
  • How to reference and cite information

What drop-in CAN'T cover:

  • Proof-reading work
  • Checking through an entire reference list

1. Identify what it is you want to talk about with the tutor

2. Get any work ready which you want to share.

3. If you’re sharing a section of an assignment, it’s really useful for the tutor to see your assignment brief too.

Online Drop-in operates on a first-come-first-served basis and tutors see as many students as they can within the hour.

If the queue is full for the day, you have a number of options:
