After many lockdown related delays, recently we were able to take in the library and archive of the English Chess Federation - nearly 200 crates of books! The Library is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in the history of chess or looking to pick-up some tips for their own game. The books and journals will be catalogued in due course, but for now the collection can be browsed on the open shelves: just make an appointment via archives@dmu.ac.uk
Unpacking so many crates was no mean feat, so we decided to show the process!
After clearing some space for the books on the shelves we started to organise the boxes by their labels.
Once organised as best as we could we started to unbox!
By Tuesday we had a good chunk of the boxes done, around 40.
Wednesday and Thursday went much better now with over 150 done! Just a few to go....
On Friday we were down to just a few!
And finally, we finished! Now surrounded by towers of boxes we just had to wait for them to be collected.
No more boxes and just a few reminders of the box fort that was once there!
Thanks for reading!
