Keep yourself and your belongings safe
Here at DMU’s library service, we love that you feel our study spaces are a home away from home. However, we are a public space and sadly thefts occasionally happen. The impact of losing your personal belongings is devastating and it can take just a moment.
To avoid this happening to you, we ask that you do not leave your belongings, especially your valuables (money, credit cards, mobile phones or laptops just to mention a few) unattended or easy to take.
Keep your valuables safe by:
- not leaving them unattended, even if you’ll only be away from the desk for a few minutes
- not leaving your mobile devices out in the open on the study desks next to you
- using the lockers on the ground floor of our Kimberlin Library and Eric Wood Learning zone to store belongings, where available
- reporting any suspicious behaviours to library staff or the Security Officers
Look after yourselves and your belongings:
- take breaks, but do not leave your personal belongings unattended - always keep your valuables with you or use one of our library lockers
- keep your belongings secure and out of sight · back up work from your laptop on to a memory stick or Onedrive. This way, if your laptop goes, you will still have your files backed up
- if you have any problem, ask library staff or Security Officers for help
When leaving our library spaces in the evening or overnight:
- carry the minimum number of bags with you when walking
- take the most direct, best lit, route
- avoid listening to music on headphones or buds or using a mobile phone when walking
- report any suspicious persons or incidents to the DMU’s Campus Security team on 0116 2577642
