Partner Students International: Welcome to Our Libraries

Welcome to our libraries

If you wish to visit us, the Kimberlin Library is our main library, located on the university campus

A variety of study areas are available.

Opening hours may vary in term and vacation time for different spaces, always check our opening times before visiting.

Borrowing from the library

You can borrow books from the library using the self-service machines.

  • Normal Loans are for 2 weeks but, providing there is no reservation, will be automatically renewed for further periods, up to 99 times in all.
  • Check your DMU email address regularly for any library notices.

Fines

Fines are charged for the late return of any overdue items which are reserved by another borrower and borrowing rights will be suspended when charges exceed £15. All items are subject to reservation by another borrower. Our fine rates are:

  • Overdue item with reservation: 50p per day
  • Overdue Short Loan item: 70p per hour or part thereof
  • Overdue Laptop: £1 per hour or part thereof
  • Overdue Inter Library Loan: £5.25 per item
  • Overdue WACOM Pen: £1 per hour or part thereof

Fines incurred from overdue items will normally only be waived in line with the circumstances described in our library fines exceptions policy, provided in the link below. If you feel your circumstances match those within the policy, then please ask at Kimberlin Library or contact us to discuss waiving fines.

How to pay a Fine

Lost Books

If you misplace or lose an item you will be asked to pay for it at the current replacement cost plus a sum to cover administration. Please speak to the library supervisor on duty when you’re next in the library, or call 0116 257 7042, and our staff can arrange for a bill to be prepared for you.

You will use your card for library services such as borrowing books and using printers, photocopiers and scanners.

Please do not share your card. It contains personal data and it is against library regulations to share your card with anyone else.
