What is the Librarian Online Drop-in Session?

Our online drop-in gives you the opportunity to speak with a librarian about any aspect of referencing or literature searching (finding quality information for your assignments). Online drop-in operates on a first-come-first-served basis and each drop-in slot is for 10 minutes.

How does it work?

  1. Join the waitlist with your DMU email address (P-number @my365.dmu.ac.uk)
  2. You will receive an email letting you know when you are next inline
  3. If you do not receive an email, contact us via JustAsk LibChat and let them know you did not receive the Drop-in email.
  4. Open Teams on your device. Login to MS365 on Office.com and click on the Teams app or open the Teams Desktop App if installed
  5. A Librarian will then contact you on Teams
  6. You will be able to chat via text, audio and/or screen share

What drop-in CAN cover:

  • Evaluating the reliability of information sources
  • Finding academic information for assignments
  • Searching academic databases effectively
  • How to reference and cite information

What drop-in CAN'T cover:

  • Poof-reading work
  • Checking through an entire reference list

1. Identify what it is you want to talk about with the tutor

2. Get any work ready which you want to share.

3. If you’re sharing a section of an assignment, it’s really useful for the tutor to see your assignment brief too.

Online Drop-in operates on a first-come-first-served basis and tutors see as many students as they can within the hour.

If the queue is full for the day, you have a number of options:
