DMU Special Collections comprises the Archives and Rare Books collections. We are based in Kimberlin 00.21, on the lower ground floor near the Journals. We are usually open Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. Contact us at archives@dmu.ac.uk with any queries or see our LibGuide here.
Special Collections holds various resources which may be of interest to Design Crafts students. In Rare Books, the Art, Design and Architecture collection includes a good selection of journals including Design, Design for Today, the Design and Industries Association (DIA) Journal and Art and Design. The Fashion and Textiles collection also includes resources relating to textile design including printing and embroidery. In the Library catalogue narrow a search by Library Location 'Kimberlin Special Collections' to view Rare Books holdings.
The Archive collection features various examples of student design work, particularly from the Printing Trades course which included typography, lithography, book binding and illustration. There are also a variety of exciting visual resources which students might find inspiring in their own work.
Design Crafts student Gemma drew on resources in the Archive to create tiles for the DMU Heritage Centre.
