Dissertation Conference: Get your dissertation or extended report sorted!

26 February 2020, 8.30-13.30, HUGH ASTON

This conference was designed for both undergraduate and postgraduate students working on a dissertation or research project. The event started with a Welcome from Professor Jackie Labbe (ProVC Academic), followed by a keynote presentation by Bertha Ochieng, Professor of Integrated Health and Social Care. The first session of the morning closed with a lightning talk by DMU alumnus Derrick Mensah, Special Projects Officer (DMU), who shared his experience of successfully completing a dissertation.

 

Participants subsequently had a series of parallel workshops to choose from:

  • Planning and structuring your dissertation or final year project 

  • Organising ideas and making your writing flow

  • Visualising your final project 

  • Planning your primary research

11-11.50

  • How to 'sound' critical in your writing
  • How to write a literature review
  • Making sense of statistical data
  • Research and critical reading 

 

The conference ended with an Ask the Marker panel session (12.30-1.30pm, HU 3.05), where participants had the opportunity to ask questions to a panel of experienced dissertation markers, from all faculties across the university.
