Accessibility features of the Library website.

Some of the ways we have tried to make the site accessible. Contact us with any questions using the feedback button below.

Alternate stylesheets: There are options for changing the way the pages are displayed at the foot of each screen. A 'cookie' is used to record your choice and may be able to remember your preference next time you use the site from your computer.
"Skip navigation" link to main content: There is a link to the main content of each page just before the start of the "quick links" menu. Selecting this link will skip the navigation features and go straight to the header for the main content of the page. The quickest way to get back to the navigation features would be to re-display the page.
Compliance: These pages are written using XHTML 1.0, XML 1.0 and CSS 2. There are validation buttons at the foot of each screen.
Images: Images on this web site have "alt" tags that either describe the illustration or explain its function.
Browsers: These pages have been tested with Mozilla Firefox on Linux and Windows and Internet Explorer 6 on a PC. If you are experiencing problems with the Library web site in these or any other browsers, please do let us know.
Access keys: The initial letters of each of the section tabs are underlined. You can use these letters as "access keys" in your browser. This means that you can move from one section to another just by using keystrokes. You can also redisplay the contents page for the current section. The way you use Access keys differs from browser to browser:; Some numbered access keys are also used on this site:

IEUse <Alt>+Access key and press <Enter> to jump to a new section.

FirefoxUse <Alt>+Shift+Access key to jump to a new section.

OperaUse <Shift>+<Esc>+Access key to jump to a new section.

Safari for MacUse <Ctrl>+Access key. Other Mac computers may use 'Cmd' key

Forms and Tables: Forms are coded to include labels for each form element, so, for example, you can click on the label on a radio button to select it. Most tables are marked up with extra information on the scope of the row or column.
Text only version?: There is no 'text only' version of this site as it has been designed to be obstacle-free for all users. You may be able to override the CSS stylesheet in your browser to view the page without the columns, if you so wish.
User defined stylesheet provision: If you view web pages through your own stylesheet you can edit this to make the settings specific to the Library web site. The CSS signature for this site is 'library-dmu-ac-uk'. Say you don't like sans-serif fonts: just edit your stylesheet to include a line like: #library-dmu-ac-uk {font: 1em Times, serif;}.
